About Starfarm (the place)
Starfarm Tai Chi & Qi Gong Search Center is an appropriate name for a place that is home to an adventure. Starfarm has been host to many esoteric practices. In 1946-47, Marc Edmund Jones, a leading astrologer of the time, established Starfarm as his Northeast USA for training students. Tai Chi, has been practiced and taught since at least 1973, and has continued since acquiring the property in 1992.
Starfarm Tai Chi periodically hosts masters with varied approaches: Tai Chi Chuan as a Martial Art, Tai Chi as self-defense, and Tai Chi as Qi Gong. The difference between these approaches is attitude, or Intent. The part of our name “search center”, comes from one of those visitors: Master Henry Wang’s “Search Centre” ideas have stuck. Search Center can be interpreted as search self.

While all three approaches improve overall physical fitness, the martial approach concentrates on drills and reflex action that result in superior skill for defeating an opponent; as self-defense tai chi approaches the conflict with a more yielding stance rooted in timing and relaxed natural response, allowing the attacker to create his own defeat. Tai Chi as Qi Gong recognizes the outer movement as an expression of an inner state of mind, and seeks to adjust these imbalances in order to conquer the “ultimate enemy”�, the enemy of self.
